Team Elite Athletes Help to Build Hope
SwimMAC Carolina's Team Elite Athletes and Coaches set aside their goggles and caps and picked up saws and shovels for a great cause on March, 10th, 2010. In Mooresville, NC they assisted other volunteers in constructing Hope Park, a community park under construction at the Lowe’s YMCA .
Hope Park will be a Town of Mooresville recreational area, and will be open to the public and maintained by Mooresville Parks and Recreation. While the YMCA has donated the land, the park is being funded entirely by donations and matching funds from the Town of Mooresville.
The idea of Hope Park began with a grant from the Hope at the Point Foundation, which was set in honor of Doug Shierson, a former Mooresville resident, race car driver, and owner. His Domino’s Pizza team won the Indy 500 in 1990 with driver Arie Luyendyk.

The racing theme playground will be built over five days, March 10-14th, , by volunteers. More than 2000 volunteers will be needed in order to complete the project. The Park will include a Tot –Lot for ages 2-5 and an area for children ages 5-12. The entire playground will be surrounded by a picket fence, which will have the names of individual or businesses engraved on it to recognize their donations. Future plans also include two picnic shelters, a community Memorial Garden, and if funds allow, a water spray park with a shade structure.
SwimMAC Carolina's Team Elite Athletes, are committed to supporting local schools and organizations by serving as Ambassadors of health and role models of lifelong fitness. This is just one of many projects that demonstrate their character and dedication to a variety of youth organizations throughout the region.
