Another Great Day At Camp Soar!

camp soar 4Camp SOAR entered it's third day on Wednesday and the pool was the place to be! The sky might have been gray, but there was nothing but good vibes and good times in the pool! SOAR stands for Special Olympic Athletes Retreat. This camp was designed to 1) host kids that could not attend other camps 2) a chance to talent scout more athletes for the Special Olympic Teams and 3) keeping current Special Olympians engaged in activities. Besides all the physical activity there is also computer lab time, Bingo and arts and crafts. If you ask a camper their favorite part of camp and most cannot pick one thing. Bingo was a huge hit with lots of prizes!

Joining us poolside today was Ira Cronin of News Team 36. He interviewed Coach Patty and Erin Gaeckle for a spot that aired on the 6:00pm news. Speaking for all the volunteers Erin and Patty stressed that SwimMAC was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the camp. Many friends were made at the pool this week, and this service project gave the volunteers an opportunity to work with special folks. Hopefully this relationship with Camp SOAR will continue for many years to come.

Joining Kristina Grayson, Jonathan Peterson, Erin Gaeckle, Austin Snyder, and Katherine Plevka was the following: Bailey Woodling, Joe Guthmann, Austin Clark, Rachel Carter, Kate Carter, Anna Gaeckle, Masters swimmers Danen Murray and Connie Roberts and Connie's son Brendon and former SwimMAC swimmer Hayden Hughes! SwimMAC's presence in the pool has made a tremendous difference, both for the Camp SOAR campers and the SwimMAC volunteers. Thursday will be the last day for in pool activities and the camp concludes on Friday with a dance! Awesome!
